Help Us Open More Beds This Winter — Volunteer for EGM’s Emergency Cold Weather Shelter
When temperatures drop, neighbors in Snohomish County need a warm, safe place to rest. Everett Gospel Mission is preparing to add extra Cold Weather Shelter beds—and we need your help to make it happen.

The Role
Join our staff to convert a large sleeping room into an eating area in the morning and reset it back to beds in the evening. You’ll help strip bedding for laundry, stack mattresses, and fold/stack portable bed frames.
Heads-up: this is physically labor-intensive work and not suited for anyone with restricted mobility.
When You’ll Serve
Ideally commit to at least one shift per week during either window:
- November 1 – January 15
- January 16 – March 30
Shift times
- Evenings (daily): 6:00–10:00 p.m. Early release is likely on non-emergency nights.
- Mornings: Sundays 6am-9am, M-F 8am-10am
Greatest needs: Sundays & Thursdays
There are two volunteer slots per shift—bring a partner if you like!
On-call and substitute opportunities may also be available.
Note: On days the County does not enact Emergency Services, volunteers may be released early or dismissed for the shift.
Orientation & Training is required.
- First fall orientation: Tuesday, October 21 at 7:00 p.m. (location shared by follow-up email)
- January cohort orientation: Tuesday, January 6, 7:00–8:00 p.m.
Why It Matters
EGM’s mission is to “Engage with the Community to Alleviate Poverty.” Your service frees staff to focus on urgent, individualized needs while ensuring guests have a clean bed at night and a space for meals by day. Our guests notice—and they’re grateful, especially when it’s cold outside.
Requirements
- 18+ years old
- Pass a background check
Ready to Help?
