Community Engagement

EGM’s work is focused on Relief, Rehabilitation and Development with and for our clients, and collaboration with & training for community.

We partner with others for specialized services while remaining focused on safety, stability, and opportunities for transformation.

EGM is a community development organization that specializes in sheltering and collaboration.

We are the only organization in Snohomish County to provide emergency shelter for single men, the largest shelter provider for single women, and we have a specialized shelter for families with children.

We provide:

  • Emergency shelter, transitional and supportive housing
  • Essential needs: food, clothing, and hygiene
  • Wraparound services including support for:
    • Substance use disorder
    • Addiction recovery
    • Access to mental & physical health care
    • Employment & life skills training
    • Housing navigation

We are a community resource, designed to provide critical support to Snohomish County’s continuum of care for people experiencing homelessness.

Relief

Safety & Shelter

Relief is the “urgent and temporary provision of emergency aid to reduce immediate suffering from a natural or man-made crisis.” This is Emergency Shelter and Essential Needs. Safety & Shelters provide stability, the context for transformation.

Safety & Shelter are needed to “halt the free fall.” Relief is transactional in nature. The exchange in relief is that of a provider giving aid to a receiver.

Rehabilitation

Care & Support

Rehabilitation begins as soon as the crisis is stabilized, and “it seeks to restore people and their communities to the positive elements of their pre-crisis conditions.”

Rehabilitation includes support for Substance use disorder, Addiction recovery and access to mental & physical health care.

* Importantly, while relief was largely assistance provided to helpless people (transactional), rehabilitation works to empower person to participating in their own recovery. It moves toward relationship and togetherness in the process.

Development

Training & Equipping

Development is the “process of ongoing change that moves all the people involved—both the ‘helpers’ and the ‘helped’—closer to being in right relationship with God.” Development includes Employment & Life skills training, Housing navigation and Transformation coaching.

Development is two parties walking side by side. Co-learning, co-participating, co-building, getting stronger, and community resilience are key goals in this phase.

Always asking what is happening versus what is wrong, EGM’s development integrates both personal transformation and systemic change.

Community Engagement

Innovation for Transformation

Our community requires ongoing innovation alongside integrated, social, emotional, physical, psychological and spiritual support.

EGM has innovated since our inception: adding a Women’s and now Family Shelter,  Respite Care, the Palisades Pallet Shelter Community, creating Poverty 101, inventing StepUp Beds and more!

Poverty 101 is central to egm’s engagement with the community. It’s where you’ll learn about The egm Way and why we minister the ways we do. Join us!
