Partnership often begins with one person recognizing how two parts of their life might come together for the good of the community.

For Mac, that connection was between egm and Davey Tree. 

Mac first came to egm in 2012, when he needed stability, recovery support, and a place to begin rebuilding his life. In the years that followed, Davey gave him an opportunity to build a career. He started in an entry-level grounds role, learned tree care from the ground up, became a certified arborist, and now serves as an assistant manager.

“egm gave me the foundation,” Mac says. “Davey helped me with my career. And being a father gave me the drive.” 

After reconnecting with egm in 2024, Mac invited Davey to become part of the work that had meant so much to him. The company responded with encouragement and a willingness to contribute its professional expertise. 

That partnership became tangible in December 2024, when a Davey crew removed a tree for egm at no cost. The team is also standing by to remove trees along the front of the Smith Campus when construction on the expansion is ready to begin. 

This work will help prepare the campus for a more connected environment—one designed to create greater safety, dignity, access to services, and space for relationships to grow. 

Davey’s partnership reflects something we value deeply at egm: shared work shaped by relationship. A former guest returned with experience and leadership. His employer listened to why this community mattered to him. Together, they found a practical way to participate. 

We’re grateful for Mac, the Davey team, and the care they’re bringing to this next season at egm. Their story is a reminder that transformation continues to take root—and that each of us has something meaningful to contribute.
